Overview
OSM Concrete completed pedestrian accessibility upgrades across five separate locations in Hollywell for the City of Gold Coast, constructing new and upgraded kerb ramps to improve pedestrian safety, accessibility and connectivity throughout the local area.
The project involved concrete and associated civil works within established road reserves, footpaths and nature strips, requiring careful integration with existing kerbs, pathways, road infrastructure and underground services.
With works spread across multiple locations, OSM Concrete coordinated each site individually while maintaining consistent construction standards, safe pedestrian and vehicle movement, and minimal disruption to the surrounding residential community.
The completed works have enhanced pedestrian safety, accessibility and amenity while providing a high-quality concrete finish built to meet City of Gold Coast standards.

Project Challenges
A key consideration was delivering the works within established public road reserves containing significant existing infrastructure. BYDA investigations identified Council assets throughout the project area including water pipes and connections, stormwater drainage infrastructure, sewer infrastructure and fibre-optic services. Telecommunications infrastructure was also present.
This required careful planning prior to excavation and close attention to the location and protection of existing services. The project documentation specifically required underground electrical assets potentially affected by excavation to be physically located using appropriate locating and non-mechanical excavation methods before earthworks proceeded.
Working across five separate locations also required efficient sequencing of labour, plant and materials. OSM managed traffic control, ensuring a safe work space and safe passage for pedestrians and vehicles around each work zone.
Construction & Delivery
OSM Concrete coordinated the concrete construction process across the individual Hollywell sites, including demolition, excavation, preparation, formwork, reinforcement where required, concrete placement, finishing and reinstatement.
Particular attention was given to levels, falls and transitions between the kerb ramps and surrounding pedestrian and road infrastructure, ensuring each completed ramp provided a smooth and practical connection through the existing streetscape.
Service protection formed an important part of the construction planning, with the works undertaken in an area containing multiple Council and utility assets. This required excavation and preparation activities to be carefully managed before concrete construction could proceed.
Outcome
The completed works delivered upgraded pedestrian access across five locations in Hollywell, providing safer and more accessible connections between existing footpaths and road crossings.
