Overview

OSM Concrete & Civil was engaged to deliver more than 2,500m² of highly specialised decorative concrete finishes for the Wizard of Oz precinct at Warner Bros. Movie World on the Gold Coast.

The project formed part of the development of the world’s first Wizard of Oz-themed attraction precinct, requiring a diverse range of custom textures, colours and themed finishes designed to create an immersive guest experience. Unlike traditional commercial concrete projects, nearly every surface required a unique finish, texture or colour blend developed specifically for the project.

The works included the creation of the iconic Yellow Brick Road, faux timber finishes, slate-style castle flooring, forest floor textures, mud-look surfaces, stone-pattern finishes and numerous custom decorative elements throughout the attraction.

The completed project demonstrates OSM Concrete’s ability to deliver large-scale themed construction works where craftsmanship, creativity and technical precision are equally critical to project success.

Project Challenges

This project required a level of customisation rarely encountered in traditional commercial concrete construction.

Prior to construction, OSM Concrete developed and produced extensive samples to achieve the desired appearance for each themed zone. Almost every area within the precinct required a unique texture, colour blend or application method, with many finishes being developed specifically for this project.

The delivery phase was completed under tight programme deadlines while coordinating with multiple trades operating simultaneously throughout the precinct. Restricted access, changing work environments, weather interruptions and high-detail finishing requirements required exceptional planning and project coordination. 

Construction & Delivery

OSM Concrete worked closely with project stakeholders throughout the development of the Wizard of Oz precinct, providing custom decorative concrete solutions tailored to each themed environment.

The team delivered a wide range of specialised finishes including faux timber textures, slate-style surfaces, custom coloured decorative paving, forest floor effects and the iconic Yellow Brick Road. Extensive sample development and testing ensured each finish achieved the required visual outcome before installation.

Despite the complexity of the works and the challenges associated with a live construction programme, OSM successfully delivered all required finishes within the project timeframe and contributed to the successful completion of the attraction precinct.

The completed Wizard of Oz precinct stands as one of the Gold Coast’s most visually distinctive entertainment construction projects.

The finished decorative concrete surfaces play a key role in creating the immersive atmosphere experienced throughout the attraction, helping bring the world of Oz to life through texture, colour and themed detailing.
