Overview
OSM Concrete was engaged by the City of Gold Coast to deliver the Middleton Street Upgrade in Ashmore, providing new pedestrian infrastructure designed to improve accessibility, safety and connectivity throughout the corridor.
The project involved the construction of approximately 117 metres of reinforced concrete footpath connecting Middleton Street through to a major intersection upgrade area. Works included heavy broom finish pathways, kerb interface works, fencing, landscaping reinstatement and detailed tie-ins to existing infrastructure.
A key feature of the project was the winding pathway alignment through a heavily vegetated corridor, requiring precise set-out and careful construction around existing trees, underground services and constrained roadside conditions.
The completed pathway now provides a safe, durable and accessible pedestrian connection while integrating seamlessly with the surrounding streetscape and public infrastructure.

Project Challenges
One of the primary challenges on the project was constructing the new pathway through a constrained and heavily vegetated corridor while maintaining existing trees, services and surrounding infrastructure.
The project also required demolition of an existing three-metre-high block wall under restricted traffic conditions. Careful planning, staging and traffic management were essential to ensure works could be completed safely while minimising disruption to road users and pedestrians.
The combination of limited access, live services and multiple work fronts required strong coordination and disciplined site management throughout construction.
Construction & Delivery
OSM Concrete worked closely within City of Gold Coast requirements to deliver the project safely and efficiently.
The team coordinated pathway construction, demolition activities, fencing installation and landscaping works while maintaining compliance with traffic management requirements and public safety obligations.
Detailed set-out and careful construction methods ensured the pathway alignment flowed naturally through the existing corridor while achieving the required accessibility and durability standards.
Outcome
The completed Middleton Street Upgrade has significantly improved pedestrian accessibility, safety and connectivity within the Ashmore area.
The reinforced concrete pathway provides a durable long-term infrastructure solution while enhancing the usability of the surrounding public environment.
The project demonstrates OSM Concrete’s capability in delivering complex public infrastructure works involving pathway construction, civil concrete works, demolition, traffic management and landscaping integration within live urban environments.
